The car is packed, the kids are loaded and we are headed for a fun filled day at the beach. We made plans to go to South Cape Beach in New Seabury this past Wednesday since the cousins were down from Maine. Myself, Mimi, Auntie Ann and the kids were all looking forward to spending the day playing in the sand and surf. Not too many people where there yet when we arrived so we were able to get up front parking, which was good because then we didn't have to lug all of the unnecessary things we brought to far. The kids picked the spot, away from all the other beach goers.
Now close your eyes and picture this: calm seas, cool breeze, clean sand, AND BLACK FLIES EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!! As soon as we sat down they were upon us. Buzzing and biting. At first I thought maybe we sat to close to the dunes, or maybe a nest of some sort. I looked down the beach to where the other people were sitting and it didn't seem like they were being bothered. We used bug spray and that seem to make it worse. I stood in the ocean, upset that our perfect day at the beach was going to be ruined by flies! We decided to pack everything up and move to where everyone else was sitting to see if the flies were just as bad. They were there, but not as many. I think we gave ourselves 1/2 hour to decide to stay or go. Once the tide and winds started to change there seemed to be less around. Of course the kids didn't seemed too bothered. They swam and played in the sand. All in all it was a great day. Nice to be able to spend it with family.
